The virtual environment at Virtual Computing consists of approximately 250 VMware VMs. “Our VMware VMs store everything from SQL servers to Microsoft Active Directory. NAKIVO Backup & Replication can be deployed as a VMware Virtual Appliance, as well as can be installed on Synology NAS. “I appreciate the multiple deployment options because I installed NAKIVO Backup & Replication on Synology NAS, as well as use a pre-configured virtual appliance for the management. With Synology NAS, VM backup performance is amazing, around 10X faster than our previous solution. Not only is the speed great, but I also enjoy the ability to have all components in one system, so that the need to constantly manage the software is eliminated,” says Robin.
"For our environment, VM backup is done once a day and we spread several backup jobs over the whole day, so that most backup jobs finish within 15 minutes. The biggest advantage is that backup jobs finish much quicker in comparison to the previous solution. Previously, we had to spend significant amount of time verifying that backup jobs completed successfully. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we save at least an hour per day and can allocate that time to other important business operations,” says Robin.
In addition to VM backup, Backup Copy provides additional advantages to Virtual Computing. “We provide a twin datacenter solution, so VM backups need to be stored on both locations. It is vital to have more than one copy of our business-critical backups, in order to ensure recoverability, in case of a disaster. From backup copies, entire VMs, objects, and files can be easily recovered in a reasonable amount of time,” says Robin.
